International Yoga Day celebrated at Guskara College
Jyoti Prakash Mukherjee, Guskara, East Burdwan -: Looking at the current situation, it seems that people are coming into the world with various organs like sugar, thyroid, blood pressure, cholesterol, obesity, etc. at the time of birth. The names of various medicines are appearing in the list of daily necessities of people. In the desire to live healthily people have chosen 'Yoga' as an alternative to medicine. In ancient times, the sages of India kept themselves healthy for a long time by taking the help of 'Yoga'. 'Yoga' is an ancient Indian tradition that keeps the body, mind and soul healthy. Yoga is performed through various physical postures, breathing techniques and meditation. Its literal meaning is 'consciousness' and the general meaning is 'union'. Our body runs with the combination of these three things - body, mind and energy. Yoga harmonizes and unites these three. Through regular yoga practice, a sick body becomes disease-free and healthy. A healthy body becomes more refreshed. The restless and anxious mind becomes calm. That is why numerous yoga training centers have been established in different parts of the state and in educational institutions. Many students practice yoga there regularly to keep themselves healthy. In 2014, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested the United Nations to declare June 21st as the 'International Yoga Day', noting the various benefits of yoga. 177 countries around the world, including the United Nations, accepted this proposal. On June 21, 2015, 'International Yoga Day' was celebrated for the first time in various countries around the world. The 11th International Yoga Day was celebrated at Guskara College through a small program with various physical exercises of yoga, initiated by the NSS and NCC departments of Guskara College and with the active co-operation of Rotary Club, Start Up Foundation, Decathlon, Samayu and Huladek. Apart from the students of the college, students of the local PP Institution, Girls' School and Baganpara, along with prominent personalities, participated in the yoga. Head of the Sports Department Dr. Manisha Mondal conducted the physical exercise program. In addition, Guskara Municipality Chairman Kushal Mukherjee inaugurated the college's yoga center by cutting the ribbon on the day. Earlier, the organizers welcomed the principal and other attendees with due dignity. The program began with preliminary yoga exercises in tune with the music performed by Monami Chongda, a professor of the college's music department. In his welcome address, the Principal of the college, Dr. Sudeep Chatterjee, explained the importance of yoga on this day and urged everyone to practice yoga regularly to keep themselves physically and mentally healthy. Incidentally, he also participated in the physical exercise of yoga. Highly praising the initiative of Guskara College, the Chairman said, "Hopefully, the students at this yoga center will practice yoga regularly and become physically and mentally strong. As a result, they will be able to stay away from the evil effects of mobile phones to a great extent."
