ADPC officials are busy controlling crowds and avoiding traffic jams during Durga Puja

Jyoti Prakash Mukherjee, Asansol, West Burdwan -:

The joy of Durga Puja, the greatest festival of Bengal, has practically begun. Everyone is dressed up and ready. Even though everyone gets the opportunity to enjoy the festival, they have no holiday. They have to be busy all year round to maintain internal peace and order. That busyness increases even more during the festival. To ensure that the joy of Durga Puja does not turn into joylessness, they have to be extra careful at all times and prepare to deal with all kinds of unpleasant situations. They are associated with the police administration.

ADPC or Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate officials have become busy to control crowds and avoid traffic jams during Durga Puja. Recently, a coordination meeting was held in the presence of senior officers of the traffic guards of the area and OCs of traffic guards of all police stations to review the situation under the leadership of DCP (Traffic) PVG Satish. Vehicle owners were also present. A detailed discussion was held on how to control traffic jams and crowding during the festival.

Later, the DCP (Traffic) said that there was a discussion on how traffic movement would be controlled during the Puja and which areas would be ‘no entry’. It was decided that from September 25 to October 5, heavy goods vehicles heading to Kolkata would be banned from 12:30 pm to 2:30 am the next day. Only vehicles travelling on Bombay Road and Dankuni would be allowed to ply. These vehicles would have B and D stickers. In addition, vehicles carrying milk, vegetables, LPG and CNG gas and other essential goods would be allowed to ply. The DCP further said that this ban would be in force from 5 am on the day of ‘Kumari Puja’ on September 30 to 2:30 am the next day. Also, on the day of Mahalaya, i.e. Sunday, September 21, from early morning to noon, heavy goods vehicles will be controlled. In addition, for Kojagari Lakshmi Puja, heavy goods vehicles will be controlled in the area for two consecutive days, October 7 and 8, and ‘no entry’ will be in force from 12:30 pm to 2:30 am the next day. Vehicles going from Jharkhand to Kolkata will be stopped at the Duburdihi check post on the Bengal-Jharkhand border.

He also announced an emergency number for any problem related to traffic congestion. This number is 8116604402. He said that if this number is contacted in any situation, all necessary steps will be taken by the administration to resolve the problem.

He sought the cooperation of transport owners as well as the general public to control traffic congestion in the area during the Puja.
