Political intrigue in Asansol robbery caseat the peak
Jyoti Prakash Mukherjee, Asansol, West Burdwan -: Within hours of the incident of Niyamatpur flour and rice trader Rakesh Julania being robbed of over Rs 11 lakh at gunpoint in broad daylight, the Asansol South police station was able to arrest four people involved in the incident after examining the CCTV footage. Although the police's action was praised, the involvement of Trinamool activist Sarwan Mondal in the incident has raised political tensions in the area and the opposition has started criticizing the Trinamool. Speaking at a press conference, DCP (Central) Dhruba Das said that Rahul Barnwal, Abhishek Prasad, Sarwan Mandal and Dipankar Biswas have been arrested in connection with the incident. Initially, Rahul and Abhishek were arrested from Kankarshol area of Asansol. A banduk, a bike and Rs 2 lakh were seized from them. After questioning them, Sarwan from Niamatpur and Dipankar from Sitarampur of Kulti were arrested. Investigation is underway to recover the rest of the stolen money. He also said that although Abhishek was involved in a murder case in Jamuria, no old charges were found against the other three. Rejecting the allegations of the opposition, Kulti Block Youth Trinamool President Biman Dutta claimed on behalf of the Trinamool that Sarwan was removed from all party posts one and a half to two years ago. This is a despicable conspiracy by the opposition to tarnish the party's image. West Burdwan District Congress leader Prasenjit Puitandi said that incidents of theft and robbery are increasing in the area under the umbrella of Trinamool. People like Sarwan are using the party's name to commit crimes, and the party is hiding them. He claimed that the people of Bengal will give a verdict against the 'thief means Trinamool' culture in 2026. The incident has spread panic among the local business community. A businessman, who asked not to be named, said, "It is true that the police are catching the culprits, but we are quite scared about this incident." On the other hand, common people are also angry in this incident. Their statement - If such a robbery happens, where will we go? Political parties are avoiding responsibility by blaming each other but are not showing the way to a solution. Along with the police, political parties must also take responsibility for maintaining law and order in the area.
