Vote rigging – Political circles are in a frenzy, questions are being raised about the impartiality of the commission
Jyoti Prakash Mukherjee-: Recently, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held a press conference. Along with multiple pieces of evidence, it is not clear whether it is correct or not, he presented the illegal voter list. Allegedly, the BJP has won various elections on the basis of this illegal voter list. Although it is highly likely, it is not possible to say for sure that the BJP has won all the votes that were rigged! In any case, a political debate has started on vote rigging. Although it is difficult to say what the final outcome of this debate is going to be, it cannot be denied that Rahul's allegations have put India's democracy and the Election Commission in the face of extremely uncomfortable questions. Despite giving Rahul a 'notice' or holding an unprecedented press conference, it is not heard that the Election Commission has given a direct answer to the various questions raised by Rahul. Strangely they have tried to confuse the issue by playing the women's card. However, the way the BJP is trying to defend the Election Commission is making doubts stronger. If there is definitely something wrong with the voter list, then why is the ruling party opening its mouth on behalf of a self-governing body? Although Rahul started it, gradually other opposition BJP leaders have started asking the same question like Rahul. Everyone has the same comment, 'Modi is a voter thief'. If the voice of 'Chowkidar is a voter thief' like 'Goli Goli Se Shore Hai Rajiv Gandhi Chor Hai' becomes loud, then it can definitely be dangerous for the BJP. It can be more difficult for them to deal with the situation. Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has demanded that since there are allegations of a lot of mistakes in the voter list and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were held based on that list, every MP should resign and a fresh Lok Sabha election should be held following a transparent voter list. On the other hand, the demand is that the centres where the allegations have been made should resign. In such a situation, like 'poison on the boil', when the EVMs were recounted in Haryana, where elections were held three years ago, on the orders of the Supreme Court, it was found that the defeated candidate had won. That is, directly double the number! Who knows how many such centres have happened! To maintain transparency and its own impartiality, the Election Commission should order a recount of the suspicious centres, and in the case of Nandigram, the court should be proactive in giving a quick verdict. There are doubts there too! Here too, questions have started to arise, the Election Commission has ordered the state administration to take punitive action against some officials of West Bengal for tampering with the voter list. The Chief Secretary himself had to go to Delhi. But in Haryana, the results were overturned by rigging the EVMs. Is the Election Commission concerned with the State of Haryana to take disciplinary action against the concerned officer? Did you instruct the administration? While countering Rahul and Abhishek, the BJP named several illegal voters in the constituencies of the two MPs and claimed that these were all illegal voters and that they were elected with these votes. In doing so, the ruling party at the center, BJP, effectively admitted that there was a lot of 'water' added to the voter list. However, the ruling party had been 'defending' the Election Commission about the voter list for so long. The BJP's allegation regarding the 2021 assembly elections in this state was that although they won, the Trinamool Congress had tampered with several EVMs and reversed the results of the votes and turned the results against them. Their allegation was about the constituencies where Trinamool won by getting less than 5,000 votes. Finally, they came up with the theory of 'setting'. On the other hand, the opposition's allegation was about the constituencies where the BJP won by less than 1,000 votes. The fact that EVM results can be overturned is evident from the incident in Haryana.Their complaint is about those centres where BJP won by less than a thousand votes. Finally, they came up with the theory of 'setting'. The husband of the Union Finance Minister has allegedly pointed out that 79 Lok Sabha seats were rigged. He claims that BJP has benefited considerably as a result. A debate has started regarding the presence of names of illegal voters in the voter list. No matter how much controversy there is, the names of illegal voters must be removed from the voter list. But while doing this, care must be taken so that no valid voter's name is left out. It should be kept in mind that if it is a crime to include the names of illegal voters in the list, then it is equally a crime to remove the names of valid voters from the list. Moreover, the mutual complaints of political parties regarding the voter list point to the failure of the Election Commission.
