Women farmers in Purba Bardhaman district showing the new way of innovation and growth in agricultural sector
Correspondence: bardhaman -: In Ausgram-2 of Purba Bardhaman district, Ujjwayani Farmers Producer Company Limited, formed under HDFC Parivartan's project STREE and implemented by Grant Thornton Bharat, is making a significant impact in the lives of 764 marginal women farmers who are shareholders of this FPC. The primary objective of this initiative is to eliminate middlemen, reduce production costs, and increase yields with better market prices. By purchasing fertilizers directly from reputable companies and selling them to farmers at fair prices, the FPC is working towards preventing the black market in the fertilizer business. Additionally, the FPC has provided high-yield potato seeds from Punjab to farmers in the last Rabi season, ensuring they have access to quality seeds. HDFC Parivartan’s STREE project which is implemented by Grant Thornton Bharat is thus giving continuous meaningful support for the betterment of rural women farmers in this area. Summa Begam, a board member of the FPC, highlighted the positive impact of this initiative on farmers, stating that they are now able to access fertilizers at fair prices and receive guidance on the proper dosage.
